Apart from pondering toaster matters....
I'm spending some time (in small increments, 'cause my back is still being bothersome) out on the upper driveway with metal detector and fishing magnet, prospecting for roofing nails. Finding rather a lot of them. The metal detector helps narrow down the search area; the magnet is only about 2.5" in diameter, and hard to drag in a straight line, so trying to ensure that it's dragged through every bit of gravel is, well, not happening.
Some nails are right at the surface; some managed to get themselves hidden. I'm also finding screws (and fragments thereof), part of a bolt, and lots of small fragments of steel wire, some copper-plated.
No gold doubloons, silver pieces of eight, Ben Franklin half dollars? That's ok cause I'll bet any one of those nails or screws would set you back an Andrew Jackson getting it fixed.
The metal detector is good idea!

Since the driveway is only about 20 years old, and we just had it regraveled last year or thereabouts... I'd be very surprised indeed to find a stash of silver Spanish dubloons, or even milk bottle tops.
I did get a bunch more nails Saturday. I hope I got all of them, or at least all that are close enough to the surface to be threats.
