Many years ago my dad gave me a piece of advice that his dad gave him, "never ever shoot a skunk in the garage". I figured it was one of those hard won lessons.

One night long ago when we were eating dinner a momma skunk came on the deck (right in front of us) with her young to dine at the cat food bowl, the cat was dozing on the deck too. The cat looked up and watched the skunks eat the food and went back to it's nap. Smart cat....
