Been digging up sweet potatoes.
The sweet potato patch, like so many other parts of the garden, has yielded more learning than actual food.
Main lesson: the soil should be much looser. Add sand and compost, and subtract weeds. Especially subtract Johnson grass, but weeds in general (including all manner of grasses) make delicate digging a challenge.
Oh, well. I did get a few pounds of probably-usable roots, plus lots of tiny roots and sprouts that are now ensconced in a tray of potting soil, water, and rooting fertilizer in the basement. And I got some exercise. Still need to dig up the onion zone and see how much I can salvage.
Meanwhile, the forecast for a hurricanian weekend is firming up. Guess I'll be having a couple of very indoors days,
