So, as I was getting ready for bed last night (kinda early, what with everything), my father inadvertently removed one of his mechanical teeth while flossing. Guess he needs a trip to the dentist.
Sleep... was kinda iffy. I went rapidly from "can't stay awake; falling asleep at my desk" to "can't sleep; having flashbacks and mini-nightmares." Now, I'm quite the mongrel, and much of my ancestry is a mystery, but I don't think there's any Onteen in the mix - and yet I seem to have something like the attitude that puncturing my skin will allow my soul to escape. (And I don't even believe in souls, though the term is a convenient shorthand for various topics I don't care to address just now.) Flashbacks to the kitchen accident, mini-nightmares about tripping over things in the garage, ongoing thumb pain, not much sleep.
On the upside, maybe I'll get a new pirate name: Scarthumb! I mean, if I start hanging out with pirates on the French Broad River.
Come the morning, Typepad was inoperative, modulo the main greeting page. (It got better.)
I still don't know what in the nine hells of Valeria is going on with global financial markets. The financial "news" is basically gibberish. I assume that, if any competent financial analysts exist, they're either playing the markets themselves or working for oligarchs who pay them a lot more than a "news" service would.
Tsar! Beware the Nones of May! (Seriously, something dramatic is required to happen between now and the 9th, and the Nones would be as good a time as any, right?)
Opening Band-Aid wrappers with one thumb-tip out of commission is a challenge. I've ended up using my teeth.
All in all, not having a real good morning. And there's a bunch of gardening to be done Real Soon Now; gonna be fun with my right thumb on light duty plus the need to keep it clean and dry the next few days. Guess I'll be wearing one blue glove for grubbing around in the dirt.
Update: Regular dentist is closed Friday (and all weekend). Doesn't seem to be an emergency, so I guess it's a Monday thing... along with Top Hat's grooming appointment (i.e., spring shave).
And, while the Creality Spider all-metal hotend is supposed to work with the Ender-6, it seems that the Ender-6 firmware (yes, I have the latest official version; just checked) doesn't support the high-temp thermistor that comes with it. Oh, well: I don't really need to run hotter than 260°C any time soon, but it'd be nice to have that capability. Also, the nozzles are unique, but they are supposed to be OK for nasty abrasive composite materials, so I guess I shouldn't need aftermarket nozzles any time soon.
Update 2: Looks like the workmen will be finishing up this round of exterior repairs this afternoon. After this, we can get the house and barn painted properly. Then there's a bunch of interior work to be done, on both house and barn. And I really need to give the barn rafters a proper spraying to discourage carpenter bees - they're everywhere, checking out everything, even tasting the tractor and maybe breaking their little bee teeth on it. I did fog the area near the door yesterday, which ought to help.
... Always stuff. We'll be needing to get the roof redone before too much longer, and might just do that this year. And the heat pump for the East end of the house will need replacing, preferably before it fails like the one at the West end did - and while we're at it, I want to see about boosting the capacity a little and extending it to the garage.
Then there's the really big stuff, like turning the barn into a proper workshop with electricity and everything. A prerequisite to this is adding another outbuilding wherein the yard equipment might be stored.
Meanwhile, I'm not accomplishing much today, what with a sore thumb and sleep deprivation. There's plenty I should be doing at my desk, but most of that requires being properly awake.
Update 3: It now seems that the workmen won't be finishing today; turns out the materials delivery was short a few boards, and boards of the required size are in short supply. They've got somebody trying to round them up. Also, the replacement weather seals for the various rollup doors turned out to be the wrong type.
Woop! As I was typing that, the third guy showed up with lumber. I don't know about the door seals. And the weather forecast for Sunday morning now calls for scattered Morris dances and thunderstorms. (Is there Morris dancing in Morristown? I don't think we'd attend this year regardless.) Wind WSW, so without new door seals the rain might get into the barn (as usual) but not into the garage. I think the locks should keep the Morris dancers out, regardless of wind.
