A quarter furlong by a chain? Ought to get half a peck out of that!

Well, half a peck is an eighth of a bushel, so... yeah, I think I got more than that out of the little part of the garden I had planted this year!
Now, just how much is a bushel, anyway? Let's see, I used to know what a cubit was....
Oh, half a peck is one dry gallon, or about one medium-sized watermelon. Heck, I picked that much just in peppers! (Non-, mind you, -pickled.)
Ya learn something new every day! I never realized that a "kenning" was half a bushel; I always thought it was a sort of circumlocution found in Viking poetry.
