Oh, looky! The RP2040 is now available as loose chips on the retail market! Around 10 bucks for 10 chips!
Operating temperature range only seems to be -20 to +85°C case temperature (not ambient), but most of the applications I have in mind are basically room temperature. Be nice if they came out with a mil-spec (or at least automotive-grade) version for future applications.
Anyway, it looks like a good prospect for the next iteration of the USB Gadgets, whenever that might happen. I'd been planning to use a Cortex M4, but a pair of overclocked Cortex M0+ cores should do fine, especially considering that the first iteration had a single, 48 MHz Cortex M0 and showed no sign of running out of CPU cycles.
