For one thing, that I'd be trying to mow the field myself. Heck, had I known that in August, that would have helped.
Also, the sort of information conveyed by this vid, just published today. Looks very much like, had I known then what I think I know now, my trip to the wainmonger would have yielded a setup with a compact flail mower (with hammer knives, I think, rather than grass knives) instead of the rotary mower deck. And, I wouldn't have been looking specifically for a tractor with a mid PTO, because the lawn-mowing function is handled rather nicely by the zero-turn mower (which was very much on the planned-equipment list back then).
One comment on that vid, though. That overgrown field? Ain't so overgrown. This is overgrown:
No, I still haven't flushed any tigers. And I have made a fair amount of progress, though two of the remaining patches involve terrain I don't like one bit, at least when it comes to operating a tractor.
Sometime soon, I gotta take the cans to the gas station again for a resupply of propulsive fluids. Also, the tractor is coming up due for its first oil change soon. A milestone! That's also the time the engine is considered officially broken in and OK to run at full speed. After the oil change, I think. Though I have been running it kinda close to full speed the last few days; it makes a big difference in ability to cut nasty tall tough grass.
Update: After Tuesday morning's mowing session...
... the tractor had just over 40 hours on the Calvinometer*; first oil change is at 50. I have the oil, the filter, and the two hydraulic-fluid filters that are supposed to get changed at the same time, and what should be enough spare hydraulic fluid to top up after the notoriously messy filter change.
* Hobbs clock, whatever.
