If you don't need a snow blower you're in the right place! Keep the grass down, lot's of ticks in the long grass...

Aside from ticks, the grass is full of spiders, insects, and all manner of creepy-crawlies.
Also, I haven't studied the habits of the two local species of venomous serpents; I know they lurk in the woods, but do they also sneak under the grass? That's on the extensive "things to learn" list.
Hence the plan to keep a couple of acres of lawn and footpaths neatly mowed. There's also a small patch of woods with an existing footpath that needs to be kept clear of encroaching tendrils, and a place where a footpath ought to be but isn't (heavy brush clearing required).

I was in Minnesota, ticks were the problem. Lot's & lot's of ticks...every day until tick season ended.
