Over at The Sun: Mini black hole created in lab!
ZOMG panic! A new take on How Julian Forward got his Negasphere, or possibly The Hole Man?
Nope. Somebody used a laser pulse to zap most of the electrons off'n one atom in a molecule, causing the remaining hyper-ion to hoover up electrons from elsewhere in the molecule. An electrostatic thing, not gravitational, and strictly limited in scope.
The actual feat is awesome enough, without making it sound like mad scientists are playing with nuclear compression charges and risking a ground-level Tunguska Event in the Stanford hills, followed by the gradual hollowing-out and implosion of the planet.
