Not so long ago, LCD modules that would work on less than 5V were specialty items, and accordingly pricey.
Now? Technology has marched on; the market has moved to 3.3V and below, and volume production with it.
So now modules that will work at 5V are the expensive ones.
And here I am with this design in the works that pretty much calls for 5V logic, and needs a little LCD module.
Oh, well. It's not that far along; I can re-examine my assumptions and maybe go to 3.3V for the logic and most of the analog (there's still one pesky analog area that needs at least a 10V supply, but that can be arranged, and the change from 5 to 3.3 doesn't affect that anyway).
Update: Oops. Now I remember why I figured on 5V. The cooling fan wants 5V (and accounts for nearly all the power consumption on the main supply).
