My server has started giving "overheating; throttled back CPU speed" warnings. So, Real Soon Now, I gotta find a time to shut it down (and the workstation, too) and remove all the dust, carpet fuzz, cat hair, feathers, centipedes, rhinoceros dander, and whatever else is interfering with proper cooling.
Earlier this year, I discovered that one of the cats had somehow engaged hard reset on the old Palm Zire on which some Really Important Old Stuff lived. Erased! Blank! Restored to factory settings! Well, there was an SD card with a backup of unknown vintage. This evening, I took the time to fiddle with it until I got the SD card menu, then ran RFBackup from the card, and picked Restore. Success! Well, partly: it was unable to restore several things, but I got back various notes, my old address book, my old calendar, and other stuff that I'd never migrated to anything more modern. Sometime soon I need to sync the thing to my desktop, while utilities to do that still exist, and then migrate various stuff to my phone. (Also, I need to migrate some stuff from my old phone to my new one, and in many cases things need merging.)
I was messing around with LabVIEW again yesterday, pursuing a lead from a retired guru (which turned out to lead nowhere, so far). In the process, I deleted (as thoroughly a I could manage) my old installation of Student Edition. Which I was going to have to remove & re-install anyway, on account of it apparently having gotten corrupted somehow. But: I can't find the original install disk. And I can't download a replacement without digging up the original serial number, which is in the same place as the disk. Well, I got it cheap, bundled with an Arduino, from Spark Fun. Wonder if Amazon has it, with Prime? Yes! And so yet another Arduino, plus a fresh copy of (probably down-rev) Student Edition LabVIEW (officially for learning, whereto I'm developing profound resistance, but I'm sure the current debugging effort will prove Highly Educational) will be here Monday. And yet, the old disk utterly failed to turn up right after I placed the order.
