Had to run Joy over to Urgent Care on Sunday. (She's doing better now.)
Brief office visit: maybe 15 minutes in the exam room, 3 minutes with the doctor, 7 with an assistant. (I omitted to take a stopwatch, so those are guesstimates.) Some basic lab work. Prescription for what turned out to be a $4 generic.
Bill for the visit expected to be in the $200 range, with a 30% discount for those with no third-party payer.
Okaaaay. Not a huge expense for someone with a professional-class income, but... for, say, a retail clerk, that's around half a week's pay, right?
Which brings up the Frequently Unasked Questions:
- What's the actual cost of providing the service?
- How much would the third-party payer ("insurance") actually pay?
