Ya know, back in the good old days...

Consider today's Non Sequitur.

"How can I take you seriously if you just keep making up scary stuff that doesn't exist?"

"Well, it works for cable news."

Because, back in the olden days before cable news, we never had that sort of nonsense.  'Twas cable that brought us the panic over satanic ritual abuse of children in day-care centers.  And the Spanish-American War.  And all that other raging-emotions rubbish that respectable print newspapers would never touch.

There's a reason the Founders didn't list "freedom of cable news" in the First Amendment!
