Because, back in the olden days before cable news, we never had that sort of nonsense. 'Twas cable that brought us the panic over satanic ritual abuse of children in day-care centers. And the Spanish-American War. And all that other raging-emotions rubbish that respectable print newspapers would never touch.
There's a reason the Founders didn't list "freedom of cable news" in the First Amendment!
