As I was eating breakfast, I noticed some twinkly lights down the side-street.
Then there were sirens, and suddenly the entire Sunnyvale police department was clustered in front of a house a little way up Essex, just a few houses from SVR Central.
Just police, no fire, paramedics, etc.; this is Very Unusual for this neighborhood, where emergency response is generally of a medical nature.
So, pick one:
- Something really big and dangerous is going on, practically in my front yard.
- Something small is going on, but it's still the Crime of the Week, so the whole department showed up.
I'm leaning toward the latter, as the cops aren't chasing away rubberneckers on the other side of the (narrow) street.
And just watch: there'll be nothing about it in the morning paper tomorrow. There will, however, be a big story about a Horrible Murder at least 800 miles away.
Update: Joy says that sort of thing often happens late at night, when I'm asleep. For that matter, even if it did usually happen at 0830 on weekdays, I wouldn't notice, because at that time of a weekday morning I'm usually on the return leg of morning walkies.
